   This is the 5th track, “La Ilaha Illa Llah”” from the CD "Djema El Fna: Gnawa Trance Music of Morocco” by Mustapha Baqbou on Interra Music Inc. This CD features beautiful Trance music of Mustapha Baqbou, recorded at his home in the Medina of Marrakesh. The photos are my originals, some with positive, thought provoking messages.

   Djemaa el Fna is a square and market place in Marrakesh's medina quarter (old city). The origin of its name remains unknown: it means Assembly of the dead in Arabic, but as the word djemaa also means mosque in Arabic, it could also mean place of the vanished mosque, in reference to a destroyed Almoravid mosque.

   This is a great recording of Marrakech's Mustapha Baqbou, solo with a guinbi, singing and masterfully strumming a few songs, mainly from the Black repertoire (the Ouled al-Ghaba). Without qarqaba -s and choral responses, this is an intimate session where the guinbri is on display.
